EN 9100 is intended for use by organisations that design, develop and/or produce aviation, space and defence products. EN 9100 encompasses all the requirements of ISO 9001, but also includes compliance obligations for applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

EN 9100 has been revised several times, as shown below:

  • 2016 – A major change is anticipated to incorporate the 2015 revision of ISO 9001
  • 2009 – A major change to adopt ‘the process approach’ in production and design
  • 2003 – Initial version

The version of this standard used in North America is known as AS9100, and the revision status is indicated by a final letter. The current version is designated AS9100C.

The definitions of some the terms which are used in EN 9100 can be found in ISO 9000.
